Dermaplaning Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dermaplaning safe for everyone?

Some people with preexisting skin concerns shouldn’t have dermaplaning. Before getting this procedure, talk to your skincare specialist if you have:

  • An active case of acne.

  • Cold sore outbreaks.

  • Eczema.

  • Moles, freckles, skin tags or other skin growths.

  • Psoriasis.

  • Skin burns, such as those from radiation therapy.

  • Skin rashes (contact dermatitis).

Are there risks with dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is generally considered a safe cosmetic procedure. However, it does carry the following risks:

  • Infection.

  • Scarring such as keloid or hypertrophic (raised) scars.

  • Skin discoloration (skin that turns lighter or darker than the surrounding skin).

What are the benefits of dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning helps treat and prevent acne, improve the appearance of acne and other scars, tightens the pores, removes fine vellus hair, makes product absorption work better and evens out application, makes chemical peels work better, and addresses the signs of aging, wrinkles, and dull skin.

This procedure will remove dead skin cells and debris revealing smoother, firmer and healthier skin.

What should I expect during the treatment?

Your specialist will use an unguarded scalpel to remove hair and dead skin cells. The tool looks a bit like a razor but removes more than just vellus hair. The blade is moved back and forth across your skin gently shaving off the top layers of skin. You might feel a scratching or stinging sensation on your skin, but dermaplaning usually isn’t painful.

Depending on the session booked, dermaplaning may be followed up with extractions, a gentle chemical peel, and/or mask, and LED therapy.

The treatment can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half. The length of the procedure depends on the size of the area that needs treatment and the options added.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Your skin will likely be pink and slightly tender after the dermaplaning procedure.  In some, there may be some swelling and more pronounced redness.

Contact LéhCär Aesthetics and your healthcare provider if you notice:

  • Swelling lasting longer than a couple of days or worsens

  • Bleeding

  • Blistering

  • Infection

How many treatments will I need?

Some people get multiple dermaplaning procedures to achieve their desired results. However, it’s important for your skin to heal completely between treatments.

Dermaplaning gives beautiful results when paired with other procedures.
